Karen Crusaders continued with their superlative performance to clinch the Malindi Beach Rugby Festival title on Sunday evening at the Buntwani Waterfront Park in Malindi, Kilifi County.
Just two months ago, the Nairobi-based side won the South Coast five-a-side beach rugby title.
Crusaders beat Technical University of Kenya (TUK) Marines 2-1 in sudden death.
Captain Anthony Omondi could not hide his joy after two titles in as many months.
"It was a battle of titans especially in the final. The tournament was well organised and there was no secret but hard work,” said Ochieng.
Marines captain Neville Obongita blamed fatigue for the loss, adding that playing bare-footed on the hot sand also proved an uphill task.
"We played well even though our opponents are more experienced. We picked the necessary lessons. The boys were so tired from the previous matches, but we gave our all," Obongita.
Hosts Malindi Experience finished third after beating Barani School 2-0.
The event organisers, led by the Coast Region Rugby Development Officer Leon Lubang'a said the event was very successful despite a lack of sponsors.
“For us to maintain and keep the sport alive, we started with the age-grade category where Barani High School emerged winners,” he said.
The winners were awarded Sh10,000.
