Kenya Rugby Union candidate for chairman Joe Onsando has revealed seven key pillars he will focus on in revolutionising the Kenyan game if elected on March 24.

Onsando's campaign revolves around governance, performance, promotion, programs, partnerships, people and places.

On governance, the former Harlequins chairman said he will ensure good management, leadership, organisation and sustainability to grow rugby in the communities.

To that effect, he said he will build an employee and volunteer workforce with capability and capacity to deliver operational and strategic outcomes.

At the same time a commitment to good governance contemporary business operations and collaborative culture.

On performance, Onsando observed that, if elected, his administration will provide clear pathways for men, women and juniors to deliver as well as avail opportunities for coaches and match officials.

On programs, Onsando said he will seek to improve and expand the schools' competition, maximise opportunities for growth through non-traditional rugby programs and grow girls' and women's participation in the game.

Onsando vowed to form partnerships by pushing for strong links and ties with counties and national governments and cultivating relationships with corporate and business sectors. 

He also reiterated on the importance of a good relationship with the media.

Onsando is also keen to capitalise on the 2027 / 2029 Rugby World Cup campaigns and other international opportunities to grow the sport 

However, he will have to overcome former Kenya Rugby Union vice-chairman Sasha Mutai in the race to replace Oduor Gangla, who is not seeking re-election after serving for four years.
