Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar will face Menengai Oilers at this Saturday’s Sisimuka rugby 15s tournament at the Eldoret Sports Club.

In the two-match tournament, Nationwide side Moi University will be taking on KRU Championship team Eldoret RFC.

This will be a repeat of the 2021/2022 Kenya Cup final, where Kabras beat Oilers 34-28 to win their maiden national title at the Bull Ring in Kakamega County.

Event organiser Ali Mbaraka said the one-day tournament is a curtain-raiser for the Kenya Cup. The season is set to kick off on November 26.

“This is a good tournament, coming just a week before the Kenya Cup kick off. As organisers, we are looking forward to developing the sport in the region and when such big teams come, we are able to market the sport,” said Mbaraka.

“As a curtain raiser to the Kenya Cup, it is also a chance to market the sport in the region by nurturing some untapped talents. We need to promote the game not just in the urban areas but in the grassroots,” he said.

Kabras are heading to Eldoret bubbling with confidence after winning the inaugural Lake Victoria Cup played last weekend at the Mambo leo Stadium in Kisumu.

The millers beat Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) 17-13 in a Kakamega-derby.
