
The four-ball of Jack Songwa, Allan Muhando, Cedric Konzolo and Julius Oketch has shifted their focus to the KCB East Africa Golf Tour grand finale after a dominant display at the Kakamega Sports Club leg of the regional series.
The quartet returned a combined score of 112 points to claim the overall team title.
The team of Victor Muhando, Phabian Isese, Jimmy Akhonya and Emmanuel Mbakaya finished second with 111 points in a highly competitive event that attracted 112 golfers.
Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, an elated Songwa said: “It is such a special feeling to emerge victorious against some of the best golfers here at Kakamega Golf Course. We came determined to win, pushed ourselves as a team, and worked hard to stay ahead. Our focus now shifts to the grand finale, where we aim to bring home the overall prize.”
Uganda’s Ben Okanya, playing off handicap 8, was the standout performer, posting an impressive 41 points to be crowned overall individual winner.
The tournament drew participants from Nyanza, Nandi, Ruiru, Golf Park, Nakuru, Kisii, Eldoret, Muthaiga, Royal and Uganda.
In the men’s category, handicap 17 Robertson Osongale claimed top honours with 38 stableford points, edging out Ben Okumu (handicap 16) on countback.
Among the ladies, Lydia Jebichii from Nandi Bears, playing off handicap 16, took the top spot with 38 points, followed by Beatrice Bisonga (handicap 22) with 37 points.
Cedric Konzolo and Jebichii won the Longest Drive contests in the men’s and ladies’ categories, respectively, while Dr A. Shitseswa took home the Nearest to the Pin prize.
The junior winner was Derek Axel (handicap 49) with 37 points, while Silvanus Otiendo (handicap 16) emerged as the guest winner with 30 points.
Among KCB staff, Allan Kirui triumphed with 37 points on countback, ahead of Prisca Chebet (handicap 36), who posted an equal score.
On Sunday, KCB extended its community impact through a Junior Golf Clinic aimed at nurturing emerging talent, alongside a tree-planting exercise to promote environmental sustainability as part of the golf tour’s legacy. The next leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour will take place at Limuru Country Club on October 18.
