Ten-year-old Ryan beat all odds to shine in KCB Tour in Eldoret

The tour resumes on April 13 when Kakamega Golf Club hosts the third leg of the KCB Golf series that seeks to reach 20 Counties in Kenya and four countries in the East African region

Following in the footsteps of his father, 10-year-old Ryan Tolgos edged out top golfers to win the KCB East Africa Golf series title at the nine-hole Eldoret Golf Club over the weekend.

Playing alongside his father, Alex Tolgos, a  former Elgeyo Marakwet County Governor, the junior player carded a total of 49 Stableford points to win the title in a hotly contested tournament that attracted over 200 golfers.

With 30 points in the first nine, the young Tolgos said fatigue set in as he only produced 19 points in the second nine but went on to win the title.

“I played well in the first nine but fared badly in the second nine. However, I am happy I still won the title," said Tolgos, who was accompanied by his siblings  Susan and Hope as well as his sad.

Playing handicap 36, he attributed the victory to hard work at the club and described his father as the pillar of his young golf career.

“My dad is my inspiration. He has impacted me positively as far as my golf career is concerned and his support and knowledge of the game has been amazing,” he said.

Another ten-year-old Kiprop, playing handicap 34, managed to finish in the second position with 45 points. Wesley Kiprono, playing in the last flight, completed the podium on 42 stableford points ahead of serial winner Amos Butit (41) and former lady captain Faith Mburu with 40.

Nyanza’s Nicholas Okello was sixth with 39 after beating Dr. Felix Tarus on countback. Michael Chebii (38), Adrian Tororei (37) and Moses Tanui completed the top ten positions in that order.

Gracemary Karira and Kenneth Serem were the longest lady and men winners on hole 17 while Faith Chmutai was the nearest pin prize winner. Kiprop Kipchirchir won the overall gross title with 45.
