Nsubuga: Playing in Kenya is an invaluable experience

Ugandan Godfrey Nsubuga reiterated that playing in Kenya has improved his golfing skills.

Nsubuga recorded his second victory by winning the Nyali Open, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) title played at the par 71 Nyali golf club on Sunday evening.

The Uganda Amateur golf champion, who won the Tea Field title at the Kericho golf club on October 1, fired level in the third and final round on Sunday for a total of four over par 217 in the three rounds to win the title.

He edged out series leader Michael Karanga by a shot.

Coming from Mehta Golf Club, Nsubuga played in a reducing formula, with five over in the opening round on Friday and -1 on Saturday with level on Sunday in the three-day 54-hole tournament for the victory.

He said that he has had a good game this year and hopes to extend his winning streak ahead of the 2024 Magical Kenya Open.

“Playing in Kenya is a blessing and managing to win is impressive. Improving my game is top of my agenda because it comes with experience,” said Nsubuga.

In the last round, the champion recorded birdies in one and 14th with all pars and two bogeys in 6th and 12th.

In round two on Saturday, he accumulated the best scores of one under par 70 when he had four birdies in 1st, 5th, 12th and 17th, before dropping a shot in 3rd, 10th and 18th with remaining pars.

On Friday, he managed five over 76 with a single birdie in 5th, with numerous bogeys and pars.

Following the victory, Nsubuga will be eligible to play at the MKO

At the same time, Kiambu’s Michael Karanga finished second with +5 218 followed by Kenya Railways' John Lejirma on +7 220.
