Nandi Bears' captain Isaac Kuto and Nelson Koech are upbeat ahead of the World Final scheduled for November 6-10 in Portugal.

The pair of Kuto and Koech finished third on countback during the International Pairs Grand Final played at the Windsor Golf Club on Friday to book their ticket.

Kericho’s pair of Anthony Korir and Sammy Chepkwony won the event with captain Ignatius Ng’etich and Joel Chebon also from Kericho second.

Kuto said they have put Nandi Bears' on the global map after an impressive show in an event that attracted over 35 other pairs.

“Ours is a small upcountry club that is looked down upon but at the moment, we are riding high, especially after our qualification. We are going to prepare well for the World Final in a bid to fly Nandi Bears' flag even higher,” said Kuto.

As a captain, he said it would be great for him and the club to get as many members as possible and increase the tournaments at their base.

“Big clubs like Muthaiga and Karen missed the chance to produce top players for the World Final but Kericho and Nandi Bears defied all odds to shine," he noted.

His counterpart Koech, who has been playing in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series, is optimistic they will represent the country well.

“We are grateful that we finally made it. Our ambition is to win the Grand Finale in Portugal,” said Koech.
