Gitonga secures NCBA title on Kitale home turf

With 84 golfers turning up for the tournament, Gitonga used home advantage to fire an impressive 70 gross for the title and a ticket to the Grand Finale set for December.

Home player Isaac Gitonga won the 12th edition of NCBA Golf Series played at the 18-hole Kitale golf club on Saturday.

With 84 golfers turning up for the tournament, Gitonga used home advantage to fire an impressive 70 gross for the title and a ticket to the Grand Finale set for December.

The champion faced off stiff competition from another home player, Phillip Shiharsy, who secured the top spot in the Men's Gross category with an impressive score of 72 gross.

Claiming the runner-up position in the men’s category was John Thuo who carded an equally impressive 78 gross.

Among the ladies, Phylis Kisuna emerged champion, having carded a round of 93 gross.  She beat Josephine Chesang, who managed 105 gross to claim the second spot.

The Nett Categories saw Edwin Chessum emerge the winner among the men with a score of 71 nett, while Josephine Njeri claimed the top spot among the women with a score of 75 nett.

In the junior category, Shelby Bungei showcased immense talent to emerge the winner with a remarkable score of 108 gross.

The Longest Drive challenge saw Eldoret pair of Aron Kitur and Faith Chemutai dazzle in the men and women's categories respectively.

Ken Matonya claimed victory in the Nearest to the Pin challenge.

The series now head to the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort on September 2.
