Nelson Koech will be the star when ICEA Lion’s Group King of the Course golf tournament head to the Nandi Bears Golf Club on Saturday morning.

Koech said he will be using the tournament as part of his training ahead of the Coronation Trophy, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the Nakuru Golf Club next weekend.

“I want to play well, especially on this home course. The tournament has attracted top players from across the country and better results will mean a lot for me,” said Koech.

Last weekend, Koech was eliminated in the quarterfinals during the Field Marshall and Toby Gibson Trophy matchplay title at the nine-hole Njoro Golf Club in Nakuru County by Kiambu youngster Elvis Muigua.

“I wanted to lift my maiden title in Njoro last weekend but I lost in the quarterfinals. I was disappointed but I will have another chance here at home,” he said.

According to the draw released by club captain Kenduiwo Mutai, Koech will tee off at 1 pm hours alongside T Korir, LM Kamba and P. Kimathu.

The first players on the tee will be V. Rugut, A sang, S. Mwithari and M. Sammy at 6:30 am followed by B Sugut, J Anyonyi, D Kipruto and S. Ballard 10 minutes later.

“We have had a big entry for Saturday's event and I hope to play well and be the king of the course at home,” added Koech.

Mutai, who also plays in the KAGC series, said the big turnout is a sign that the tournament will be successful.

“We have had many players signing for the tournament and as a captain, it is an achievement for the club,” said Mutai.
