Reigning Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) champion John Lejirma defeated youngster Elvis Muigua at the matchplay finals to win the Field Marshall and Toby Gibson Trophy title at the nine-hole Njoro Golf Club in Nakuru County.
The Kenya Railways' golfer managed eight points against Muigua's six to register his maiden win in the series that teed off Friday morning.
“It was not easy to win but it shows that there are good things coming ahead of me. I want to try my best in the next event," said Lejirma after beating a field of 38 amateurs.
Lejirma's march to the title included victories over Vet Lab’s Ebill Onmollo in semis and Ugandan Godfrey Nsubuga in the quarters.
Muigua beat Golf Park’s Sammy Mulama and Nandi Bears' Nelson Koech on his way to the final.
Lejirma becomes the third individual to win at the series after Kiambu’s Michael Karanga, who won the Sigona Bowl, Windsor Classic, Muthaiga Open, and Railway Invitation and Limuru’s Dennis Maara, who wonthe Winston Churchill title at the Thika Sports.
