Deaflympics golf bronze medallist, Isaac Makokha is eyeing the second edition of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) Series title that tees off on Friday morning at the par 72 Golf Park Golf Club.

With the club hosting the second edition of the event, the top deaf golfer in the country will tee off at 8.50 am alongside F. Munyua and K. Lukas.

He said he is well prepared for the event also known as Golf Park Open.

“I have been training well and I am ready for the tournament. I hope to return home with better results,” said Makokha.

The Vet Lab golfer represented the country at the 2022 Deaflympic Games in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, where he won a bronze medal. He beat German international Guldan Nico in the bronze play-off encounter at the Deaflympics Games to return home with a medal.

The 54-hole tournament, which tees off on Friday morning and ends on Sunday afternoon will be used by amateurs to earn World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.

Makokha, formerly of Eldoret Golf Club, plays golf alongside his siblings —pro player Jeff Kubwa (Muthaiga), Reuben Kubwa (Vet Lab), Charles Odhiambo (Eldoret) and Dennis Makokha (Eldoret).

“This time around, I hope to play good golf going by my latest training," he said.

However, he will have to deal with the series leader Michael Karanga who won three back-to-back titles including Sigona Bowl, Windsor Classic, and Muthaiga Open. Karanga also garnered 14 points at the Winston Churchill Cup, where Dennis Maara was the winner.

According to the draw released on Thursday morning, 70 players have confirmed participation.

A total of 23 professionals will join the amateurs for the second and third rounds but with separate cash prizes.

Defending champion John Lejirma from Kenya Railways,  who won the Inaugural event last year will be in action to defend his title.
