Royal Nairobi Golf club to host the 100th edition of KAMPC

The 100th edition of the Kenya Amateur Match Play Championship scheduled for June 16- 19 at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club, has attracted a total of 84 players boasting a handicap index of 10.8 and better.

The winner of the five-round knockout tournament will get an automatic slot to play in the 2023 Magical Kenya Open, which is a DP Tour event held annually. 

 Defending champion John Lejirma, who clinched the title last year after a tight contest, is tipped to give rivals a run for their money.

Nyali's Adel Balala, the 2021 Golfer of the Year series leader as well as Junior Golfer Njoroge Kibugu of Muthaiga are also not to be ruled out. 

Limuru's Dennis Maara and Jay Sandhu from Royal Nairobi are among the golfers to watch. 

The event has attracted nine entries from Uganda including— Bagalana Ibrahim, Andrew Ssekibejja, Joseph Kasoozi, Collins Bulafu, Alunga Michael, Cwinyaai Joseph, Asaba Denis, Andrew Ssekibejja and Nsubuga Godfrey.

Tanzania's Jay Nathwani and Hailay Gebrekidan from Ethiopia have also confirmed participation.

"This will be a very interesting tournament considering we have the creme de la creme of the players from the three countries," said Philip Ochola,  the Kenya Golf Union Vice-Chairman who doubles up as the tournament director.

KAMPC is one of the oldest and most prestigious match play events in Kenya and has been hosted by various golf clubs in the country on a rotational basis.
