165 golfers confirmed for Johnnie Walker Series in Thika

A total of 265 golfers have confirmed participation for the second leg of the Johnnie Walker Golf Series set for this Saturday at Thika Greens Golf Resort.

The second of 18 qualifying legs of the Road to Gleneagles tournament will build on the success of the opening round and will see 165 players from Thika Greens Golf Resort compete for a chance to qualify to play in the latter stages of the tournament.

The overall series winners will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the iconic Gleneagles Golf Course in Scotland. Johnnie Walker remains a massive supporter of golf in the country, with tournaments like these offering an opportunity for amateur golfers to hone their skills by competing with each other as well as learning from professionals.

Kenya Breweries Limited’s marketing manager, Josephine Katambo, said: “Johnnie Walker remains committed to maintaining the upward trajectory that Kenyan golf is on. Through this tournament, our objective is to marry golf and social interaction, with a view to bringing more people to embrace the sport. The Road to Gleneagles circuit is another of our many contributions towards the development of the sport.”

The Thika Greens Golf Resort captain, Ndiga Kithae, expressed his delight for the opportunity to take part in the series.

 “We are extremely grateful to Johnnie Walker for giving Thika Greens golfers the opportunity to showcase their capability.

"On behalf of the players, I would also like to thank Johnnie Walker for putting together this tournament, which has added some excitement to the golf calendar.

"The four-ball Stableford format also adds another layer of uniqueness to the tournament, a challenge that I am sure our players will relish. The course is in excellent condition, so I expect our players to turn up in numbers and play some good golf on the day.”
