Chepkwony eyes podium as Nandi Bears host the first KGU event

Nandi Bears will host it's first ever Kenya Amateur Golf Championships this weekend.

Nandi Hills in Nandi County captain Simon Chepkwony is eyeing podium finish as the club hosts it's first ever Kenya Amateur Golf Championships this weekend.

Chepkowny, who has been playing in various KAGC events alongside his chairman Kimeli Mutai, Elly Barno and Nelson Koech, said they want to make an impact on the home club when they host the event.

Last weekend, Chepkwony won the Absa Bank tournament on par 73 Kitale Golf Club. During the event, the handicap 11  fired 139 nett to emerge top. He posted 70 nett and 69 to win the title in the two-day event. 

“Playing at home especially in the first KGU event will be advantageous for me and the club members who will be chasing the titles ahead of  Kenya Open Golf championships,” said Chepkwony.

During the Kitale event, Stephen Malakwen won the men’s prize ahead of compatriot Ken Matonya with the guest prize going to Karen Club's John Olunga.

Naomi Wafula was the lady winner after beating Josephine Chesang to second place. Yusuf Omar won staff prize while Nandi Bears’ Elly Barno was the gross winner.
