Local hero Dismas Indiza has described his Day One round of 2 under par 69 as inspiring.

Despite struggling on the 12th, 13th and 14th holes, the Johnnie Walker-sponsored pro attributed the good start to back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th Indiza, who started off his round from the par-4, 10th with a birdie, said the score puts him in a favourable position for the cut today.

Today’s round will separate the boys from men with the cut set to be determined by today’s round.

“Today’s (yesterday) play was generally a decent outing for me and I felt that I don’t have much to improve on going into round two tomorrow (today).”

Indiza, who added another birdie on the par-5,11th, said: “The course was in good shape today (yesterday); the fairways a bit dry though, but the greens really good. It got tricky with the wind in the morning, but I can only sympathise with the afternoon groups when the wind really picks up here.”

Indiza struggled to hole consecutive bogeys at the par-5, 12th, par-4, 13th and par-3, 14th holes before holding par on the rest of the holes for a total of 37.

He found the groove back on the first nine to play blemish-free and hole birdies on the par-3 4th, par-5, 6th and par-4, 7th holes for a total of 32.

He tees off at the first tee today at 1:00 pm alongside India’s Shubhankar Sharma who wrapped up his Day One campaign on 3-over par 74 and Spaniard Adri Arnaus who finished 5-under par 66 to top the leader board as of 3 pm on Round One.
