Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohamed has called for restraint, unity and strict adherence to the federation's constitution after a high-level mediation meeting with a joint Fifa and CAF delegation in Nairobi.
The meeting brought together FKF's National Executive Committee and representatives of the world and continental football governing bodies. It comes amid a protracted leadership dispute that has threatened to destabilise Kenyan football ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Addressing the outcome of the talks on Tuesday, Mohamed said Fifa and CAF had urged football leaders to put the interests of the game above personal differences.
"Today we hosted a joint delegation from FIFA and CAF organised in coordination with both governing bodies for discussions with FKF leadership and the National Executive Committee on governance and institutional stability," Mohamed said.
The meeting followed months of infighting within FKF. It culminated in an attempt by a section of NEC members to suspend Mohamed, a move he said Fifa later declared unconstitutional for failing to comply with the FKF constitution.
With Kenya set to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania, Mohamed said the governing bodies had delivered a clear message that the federation must remain stable.
"With major events coming up such as the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, Fifa and CAF have called upon all FKF members to act with restraint, responsibility, and full adherence to the FKF Constitution and the principles of good governance," he said.
Mohamed said FKF remained committed to rebuilding confidence in the federation through constitutional leadership and transparent management.
"As FKF, we reaffirm our commitment to constitutional order, transparency, and institutional integrity in the management of football in Kenya for the benefit of players, clubs, fans and all stakeholders," he said. "We appreciate Fifa and CAF's continued guidance and support as we work to strengthen governance structures and protect the integrity of the game," he added.
The governance dispute has unfolded as Kenya prepares to co-host Afcon 2027 and roll out key football development programmes, piling pressure on the federation to demonstrate unity and sound leadership.
Tuesday's meeting is expected to be followed by a briefing to the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture, where FKF officials are expected to provide an update on the federation's governance and preparations for upcoming international assignments.
Mohamed said the federation would continue working closely with Fifa and CAF to strengthen governance structures and ensure Kenyan football remains focused on serving players, clubs and supporters while preparing for the country's biggest football event in history.
