Record 21-time KPL champion Gor Mahia have cast their net wide by bringing on board Ugandan international striker Mohamed Shaban ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Shaban, 28, has signed a one-year deal from Libyan Premier League side Al Anwar to strengthen their misfiring front line that fell short as they relinquished their KPL title to Kenya Police FC last season.

The striker previously played for his native Ugandan outfits KCCA FC and Onduparaka FC and also featured for Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca between August 2018 and August 2019.

The 5.5-foot marksman, who trained with K’Ogalo for the second day, won the Golden Boot in the 2023/24 season by scoring 17 goals for KCCA FC before switching to Libya’s Al Anwar.

Shaban becomes the eighth player to sign for the Green Army after the arrivals of Michael Kibwage, Lewis Bandi, Byrne Omondi, Fidel Origa, Siraj Mohammed, Veron Ombima, and Felix Oluoch.

Gor fell 2-1 to KPL newbies Nairobi United in the FKF Cup in June, to summarize their rare trophy-less season, and Shaban will be tasked with banging in goals to ensure they win titles this season.

According to Gor Mahia chairperson Ambrose Rachier, the striking force was a key area identified as a weak link that led to their struggles last season.

“Our forward line struggled last season, which led to us narrowly missing the KPL title and the FKF Cup altogether, and we hope to avoid a repeat of the same this season,” said Rachier.

Besides Shaban, K’Ogalo have also been linked with another Ugandan forward, Frank Ssebuufu, who is currently a free agent after parting ways with American side New York Red Bulls.

A deal is yet to be reached, but Gor Mahia assistant patron Eliud Owalo is spearheading talks to bring Ssebuufu on board.

K’Ogalo, led by new Ghanaian head coach Charles Akonnor, will kick off the KPL 2025/26 campaign against Bidco United on September 21, 2025, and will face their sworn rivals AFC Leopards on November 30, 2025.
