Gor
Mahia legend Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno will take charge of the club for the rest
of the season after head coach Sinisa Mihic was shown the door Monday evening.
The
controversial Croatian leaves K’Ogalo after only three months, having signed
with the record 21-time KPL champions on February 3, 2025.
The
club made the announcement via their official social media handles a day after
they were held to a barren draw by Murang’a Seal.
“We
have parted ways with head coach Sinisa Mihic on mutual agreement; the two
assistants to take charge on an interim basis. We wish Mihic all the best in
his endeavors,” the statement read.
Mihic
is the second coach to leave Gor Mahia this season after Brazilian Leonardo
Neiva was sacked on November 13, 2024.
The
former K’Ogalo defender, who led the club on an interim basis between November
13, 2024, and February 3, 2025, will be assisted by second assistant coach
Michael Nam.
While
the club did not give the main reasons for sacking the Croatian, club insiders
say his relationship with the technical bench and players had deteriorated,
while fans questioned his technical knowledge and fielding.
His
reign was not smooth, with wrangles against the technical bench the order of
the day.
This
was evident in a viral video of a bitter argument with his assistant’s bench
last month, before he later expelled them from training sessions.
Club
chair Ambrose Rachier reconciled the trio, but the controversial Mihic would storm
out of Dandora Stadium during Gor’s 1-1 draw with Sofapaka on April 19.
Mihic
was reportedly angered by the substitutions made by assistants during the game,
in which he was serving a one-match touchline ban.
The
Croatian managed 15 games, won 8, drew 5, and lost 2 during his tenure, but
Zico was in charge during the Sofapaka clash with Mihic suspended.
The
most expensive loss came against bottom-side City Stars on May 15, 2025,
followed by the barren draw against Murang’a Seal.
The
result leaves K’Ogalo seven points behind Police FC in the FKF Premier League
and must win all their remaining matches against AFC Leopards, Ulinzi Stars,
and Police FC while praying that Shabana beats Police FC.
Mihic,
however, had a clean record in the FKF Cup, leading K’Ogalo to the semifinals
unbeaten in four games, scoring 12 and conceding zero.
They
next battle giant killers Nairobi United in the semifinals in June.
