Nairobi United coach Nicholas Muyoti has warned his players against laxity as the battle for Kenyan Premier League promotion hits the homestretch.

The National Super League leaders' coach observed: “All our remaining games will be like finals. As always, we have to give our best. Other teams are not that close, but we have to get three points to be safe.”

Speaking after a 2-0 win over Luanda Villa in a rescheduled mid-week game at Dandora Stadium, Muyoti hailed his charges as they bounced back to winning ways. Enoch Machaka and Ivorian Frank Ouya scored for the Johnson Sakaja Foundation-sponsored side.

Muyoti added, “I want to thank the boys for the win. It was a very important win since we were coming from a 1-0 loss against Kibera Black Stars. It was a good reaction from them. We want to continue winning until the last game of the season.”

Nairobi United have 69 points from 33 matches. Administration Police Service (APS) Bomet are second with 64 points, while Naivas are third with 57 points. Darajani Gogo (52 points) and Kisumu All Stars (50) close the top five.

Luanda Villa coach Leonard Saleh blamed the defeat on fatigue and stage fright.

“We lost the game against Nairobi United for two reasons. First, we were a bit tired from our last game in Mombasa. A bit of fatigue set in. Secondly, it’s about stage fright because it was the first time for them to play at a big stadium. They were a bit excited. We conceded the two goals, but we managed to compose ourselves,” he said.

Hosts Fortune Sacco cemented eighth place with a 2-0 win over Migori Youth at Kianyaga Stadium. Elias Mugane and Lucas Askoe were on target.  Fortune have 47 points from 30 matches while Migori are 15th with 34.
