Struggling FKF Premier League side Mara Sugar have appointed experienced Edward Manoah as head coach.

According to team manager Gilbert Ledama, Manoah will manage the team until the end of the season.

Benedict Wanjala, the interim coach, will now be the first assistant coach alongside Benjamin Omukaba, also known as  Ben Bella. Wanjala helped the club qualify for the FKF Premier League.

Earlier this season, the club parted ways with former Gor Mahia striker George Midenyo. “Manoah joined us last week and was in charge of our game against Ulinzi Stars, which ended in a 1-1 draw. He is an experienced coach, and we believe he will help our team in the upcoming games,” said Ledama.

Manoah will be in charge of the team in Friday’s game against bottom-of-the-table Nairobi City Stars at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Manoah, a CAF A licence holder, previously handled Kakamega Homeboyz, Vihiga Bullets and Vihiga United.

Mara Sugar’s other remaining games will be against Shabana at Gusii Stadium and face hosts Bandari in their penultimate game of the season. The cane millers take on Murang’a Seal in the last game of the season.

Mara Sugar are 14th on the log with 31 points from 29 games. The FKF Premier League newcomers have won seven, drawn 10 and lost 12 games in their maiden season. Ledama remained confident about avoiding relegation.

“We are not taking chances in the four remaining games. The games will be tough, but we want maximum points,” said Ledama after the team’s training session at Nyangusu playground on Monday.

Bidco United (17th) and Nairobi City Stars are threatened with relegation, while Murang’a Seal sit in the promotion/relegation playoff slot. Murang’a Seal have 29 points, one better than Bidco while City Stars are four points further back.
