Twenty-five coaches started their pursuit of CAF 'B' license on Monday at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) in Nairobi.
Among them are Vihiga Queens’ assistant coach Harriet Fakhiri, Eldoret Falcon's Mike Wachira, Kakamega Homeboyz’ assistant coach Jeff Odongo, Shabana’s assistant coach George Owoko and 3K FC’s coach Francis Chege.
This is the fifth CAF 'B' course by the current Football Kenya Federation office.
FKF over the years has ensured a clear pathway for coaches to follow. The impact has been felt in youth and women’s football as demonstrated by the performances of the country’s age-grade national teams.
While giving reference to the impact of the courses on women’s football, FKF vice president, Doris Petra, lauded the Junior Starlets (U17) for their World Cup qualifiers exploits.
The team is one match away from qualifying for a first World Cup.
The team's technical bench, led by coaches Mildred Cheche and Anne Aluoch, is among the beneficiaries of the FKF-run courses.
“Both Junior Starlets coaches are products of the FKF coaching courses,” Petra said.
“FKF decided to train coaches since there was a gap in the number of trained coaches available at the grassroots level. We needed individuals with the knowledge on how to develop players from an early age."
The course will run for four months under the tutelage of coaches Salim Ali and Leonard Odipo.
