An attempt by a man to detain his brother in hospital ended tragically when they both drowned in a pool of water in the Mirema area, Nairobi.
Both the patient Jimnah Mbuthia, 35 and his young brother Gibson Githaiga drowned in an open pool of water at a quarry a few meters away from the hospital.
Mbuthia had been admitted to the facility on Saturday for mental-related issues.
His brother was then tasked to stay with him in hospital, police and the family said.
Hours later, the patient sneaked out of his ward and ran out prompting his brother to pursue him.
They both did not know the direction they were running to was dangerous as it was deep with water.
They both plunged there and drowned, police said.
Police with locals managed to retrieve the bodies from the water. The bodies were taken to the mortuary pending autopsy.
The mother of the victims said Mbuthia had been unwell and they had taken him to Life Bridge Hospital in Mirema when the incident happened.
Meanwhile, a man was crushed as he scavenged for metal rods from a concrete wall adjacent to Shell petrol station Sabaki, Athi River.
Police said Elvis Mutuku 27 was salvaging steel rods from a concrete wall, which fell on him crushing him to death.
Alongside the body was a hacksaw he was using and had already cut steel rods, police said.
Elsewhere police are investigating an incident in which a man died at a chemist while seeking help in Mathare slums.
The man had on Saturday walked into the facility while bleeding before he collapsed and died.
Police who visited the scene said the man had stab wounds on the throat.
It is not clear who was behind the stabbing of the Saturday night incident.
It is alleged that he was stabbed in the parking yard by an unknown assailant just outside his rented apartment and rushed to seek medication at the facility.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
A 78-year-old man died in a fire incident in the Kabati area, Muranga County.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be a candle, which was found at the scene, police said.
The deceased was identified as Pius Kamau Gitau who was in the bedroom during the incident. He was pronounced dead on arrival in hospital, police said.
