Emman Wafula, head coach of Barcelona Ladies, has expressed optimism in securing a third consecutive Chapa Dimba regional title over the weekend.

Wafula emphasised the team's thorough preparations, aiming for an unbeaten run.

"Our goal is to win all of our matches and defend our regional title for the third consecutive time," said Wafula.

"The team is in good form. We have been training daily and participating in a few local competitions that I believe has helped strengthen my girls."

It would be a huge opportunity to represent the region this year after missing out on the previous edition due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We aim to get an opportunity to represent our region at the nationals. Our ambitions were halted during the last edition due to the pandemic. We ask our fans to come out in large number and support us," added Wafula.

The Laikipia-based team will, however, have to battle it out against three others; Kiwanja Queens from Kiambu, St. Joseph Secondary from Murang’a and Kartville FC of Kirinyaga.

The boys category features Karatina Homeboyz from Nyeri, Lysa FC from Laikipia, Kiaga Secondary from Kirinyaga and M-PESA Foundation from Kiambu.

The semi-finals are slated for Saturday with the final on Sunday.

The weekend showdown marks the final regional finals of the Chapa Dimba’s fourth edition, which kicked off in Western in August last year.

Barcelona Ladies kick off their campaign against Kartzville FC with Kiwanja Queens taking on St. Joseph.

Karatina Homeboyz will duel Lysa FC with M-Pesa Foundation taking on Kiaga Secondary.

The Central region witnessed fierce competition with 325 teams from six counties vying for glory.

Players and coaches will partake in clinics ahead of the matches, focusing on various tournament aspects, including the utilisation of GPS Sports Vests for player scouting and data collection.

Winning teams (boys and girls) will earn Sh250,000 and a ticket to the national finals in Kisumu next month.

Runners-up will pocket Sh150,000 each, while standout individuals will receive Sh30,000 along with Neon Smartphones.
