Tusker head coach Robert Matano reckons they are in a strategic position to clinch a 13th Kenyan Premier League title after beating AFC Leopards on Sunday to go second.

The Ruaraka-based beermakers fend off a vicious challenge to wring out a well-deserved 1-0 victory over their more fancied city rivals.

The outcome halted Ingwe's impressive eight-match unbeaten run heading into the crunch tie at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

An own goal was all it took for the brewers to secure maximum points, with Mike Oduor providing a low corner from the left and John Njuguna dummying to fool the previously impermeable Leopards' backline into turning the ball into their net.

"We were determined to win this match and I'm glad we have managed maximum points against a side that came into the game on the back of an eight-match unbeaten run," Matano remarked.

"What impresses me the most is the zeal displayed by my players in today's encounter. With such a spirit, I believe we can close the gap between us and leaders Gor Mahia and eventually beat them to the title," he added.

Unfazed by the hiccup in their lofty campaign for a 14th title after two decades in the cold, AFC Leopards gaffer Thomas Trucha heaped praises on his charges for a good display in front of a mammoth crowd.

"We displayed a good game only that we were shy in front of the goal. It's something we must address in training before our next match," Trucha stated.

"I don't think it is appropriate to write us off just yet. We still have 10 matches to play and the title race is much open," he added.

Elsewhere, Posta Rangers suffered their second huge defeat of the season after crashing 5-1 to Kariobangi Sharks at the Police Sacco stadium in South C.

They fell 4-0 to Gor Mahia at the same venue a week ago.

Fleet-footed winger Julius Masaba opened the floodgates in the 15th minute before doubling the advantage in the 49th minute.

John Mark Makwatta and Leonlivitt Otieno and Patila Omoto added a goal apiece in the 56th, 65th and 90th minutes to complete the rout.

Patrick Otieno drew a consolation for the mailmen in the second minute of added time.

Ten-man Kakamega Homeboyz pipped Ulinzi Stars 2-0 at Mumias Sports Complex, Nzoia Sugar drew 1-1 with Talanta at Sudi Stadium, Bungoma.

Police also drew 1-1 with Muhoroni at Police Sacco Stadium.
