Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have named Mildred Cheche as the new head coach for the Junior Starlets.

In addition to her new role, Cheche also serves as the assistant coach for the senior women’s national team, the Harambee Starlets, as well as the Rising Starlets,

Cheche underwent a dedicated four-month training for the CAF B coaching license alongside 25 other coaches and graduated on October 6, 2023, at the Kenya Institute of Special Education.

The tactician is also a CAF B license holder and currently holds the position of assistant coach for the U15 women’s national team.

FKF issued a statement announcing the appointment of the coach on their website.

"FKF has named Mildred Cheche as the new head coach of the Junior Starlets. Ann Aluoch will assist her," the statement read.

The duo will help the team gear up for the 2024 Fifa U17 World Cup second-round qualifiers. The Junior Starlets are set to face DR Congo away on February 4 and at home on February 11.

The U17 team were disqualified in 2022 by Fifa from taking part in that year’s World Cup qualifiers, owing to the suspension of FKF from international footballing events.

Junior Starlets have, however, never made it past the qualification stages and will be hoping to turn their luck around this year.

The World Cup which is a biennial international event will be held in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3.
