Okatwa leaves National Super League outfit Nairobi United

The club’s chairman Samuel Born Maina confirmed the departure of the Okatwa but did not give details.

National Super League outfit Nairobi United is searching for a new coach following the departure of Paul Okatwa.

The club’s chairman Samuel Born Maina confirmed the departure of the Okatwa but did not give details.

“Indeed, he is not with us but I don’t want to discuss details on the issue,” said Maina.

He said they are currently searching for a new head coach. Maina also noted that they are looking for a goalkeeping trainer.

“I have identified some candidates but we will settle on the new coach before the second leg starts,” said Maina.

Some of the candidates interested in the job are current Mully Children’s Family (MCF) coach Vincent Nyaberi, former Mara Sugar coach Francis Xavier and former Mwatate United coach Evans Mafuta.

Nairobi United resumes National Super League action on January 6 against Mully Children’s Family (MCF) at Thika Stadium. They sit eighth on the log with 20 points from 12 games.

Maina said he is focused on having the team qualify for the Kenya Premier League next year. “Our target remains qualification for the KPL next season,” said Maina.  

Separately, Benedict Wanjala is set to be named Mara Sugar's head coach. He will replace Vincent Nyaberi who left in a huff to join Mully Children’s Family. Wanjala is a former APS Bomet, Mombasa Elite and Mwatate United.
