Reigning champions Nairobi Water Queens romped into the semi-finals of the East and Central Africa Handball Federation Club Championships after posting a 37-37 draw against Nkajja of Uganda at Nyayo Stadium.

This nip-and-tuck Group A clash that could have gone either way saw the Kenyans lead 18-17 at the break but the Ugandans charged back to lock with the final throw.

Captain Gladys Chilo's last-gasp shot seemed to have won it with a last-gasp shot but a defensive lapse gave Mutesi Nasii a chance to level with the last shot.

"We had the chance to win it and even called a time out and told my girls to just control the game but they committed a turnover which they capitalised on," Noted coach Jack Ochieng.

"I know the Ugandans well. They are not a team to underrate, but the good thing is that we are topping the pool. We will fix the defence."

General Service Unit are leading men's Pool B and are on course for a semis' slot after they thrashed  Uganda's Evergreen 36-21.  The paramilitary side took a 17-10 lead at the breather and went on to carry the day.

Leading the GSU scoring tally were Paul Ondara, Philip Oscar, and Mark Barasa who all scored four goals. Nyanzi Shakib and Lamu Anthony had seven each.

In the men's Pool 'A' match, KDF suffered a hit by Rwanda's Gicumbi 37-32 in a thrilling game that was locked 18-18 at half-time.

"It was a close game but we committed a lot of turnovers that caused us the win. Now we must show our form against Cereals, said coach Nickson Oyaro.

Kevin Imo tallied five goals for KDF while Abel Weru, Isaac Kololi, and Frank Kiplagat each registered four goals.

Munrzekero Frank bagged eight goals as Muhawena Pool and Kibwimana Emmanuel scored seven and six.
