The Confederation of African Football (Caf) will be hosting a two-day Anti-Doping Control workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa this week.
As preparations for Caf’s flagship competition, the Africa Cup of Nations, Cote d’Ivoire 2023 gradually approaches the final stages, the governing body is working tirelessly to ensure that all functional areas and divisions are well equipped and prepared for the biggest event on African soil.
The two-day workshop, involving senior medical practitioners from across Africa is scheduled for December 5–6 and will see the delegates dissect and unpack the latest developments surrounding the topic of Anti-Doping and other medical matters.
A total of 41 medical doctors who have been involved in various Caf and Fifa competitions will be in attendance over the two-day workshop.
Speaking ahead of the workshop, Caf Development Division Director, Raul Chipenda said the workshop forms part of Caf’s ongoing efforts to ensure that football in Africa is kept abreast of the latest global developments and trends.
“The topic of Anti-Doping is quite crucial and if not fully understood, can lead to unfortunate incidents that have a direct impact on our footballers and football in Africa," Chipenda said.
"It is therefore important that we have such gatherings where our medical practitioners are brought up to speed with the latest developments and measures being put forward about Anti-Doping,” said Chipenda.
Topics to be discussed at the workshop include the role of a Caf Doping Control Officer, the introduction of the Doping Control Paperless System, Testing Methods as well as prohibited substances and supplement abuse.
