Mara Sugar coach Vincent Nyaberi has resigned barely two weeks after taking over the Trans Mara-based National Super League (NSL) side.

Speaking to the Star, Nyaberi said Friday was his last working day.

“Friday is my last working day at Mara Sugar. I want to thank them for giving me an opportunity and I wish them well in their future endeavours,” said Nyaberi.

During his brief stint at Mara, Nyaberi helped the club win two matches, against Dimba Patriots and MCF.

In an interview, Nyaberi said he is headed for Yatta-based NSL outfit Mully Children’s Family (MCF).

Assistant coach Godfrey Naibei will be in charge of Mara Sugar’s game against Gusii FC at Awendo Green Stadium on Saturday.

Nyaberi, a former defender, helped Murang’a Seal qualify for the Kenyan Premier League but was sacked and replaced by Gabriel Kingi.

MCF are currently bottom of the second-tier league table with seven points from 11 outings. They have won once, drawn four times, and lost five since the season began.

MCF host unbeaten Luanda Villa at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos this weekend, targeting their second win of the season.

At MCF, Nyaberi will take over from Robert Orangi, who was shown the door after a poor run of results.

Meanwhile, Sofapaka assistant coach Francis Xavier has resigned a month after he was appointed as Ezekiel Akwana’s assistant.

“I decided to leave Sofapaka partly because they did not honour the contract I signed. I decided to leave early because I don’t like engaging people in court battles. I’m now free and looking for another job. In coaching, it’s normal,” he told the Star.

At the same time, 10 NSL games are on the cards this weekend.
