Vihiga Queens believe the duo of Mercyline Wayodi and Janet Bundi have what it takes to light up the international stage after being named to the Harambee Starlets provisional squad for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers set for this month.
The pair is part of the 29-member squad expected to hit camp for Starlets' two-legged final round against Botswana.
The first leg is slated for November 29 in Nairobi with the return leg scheduled six days later.
Wayodi is making a comeback to the team after being overlooked in the previous assignment.
Victory for Starlets will guarantee them a place in the 2024 WAFCON finals.
"Vihiga Queens takes this earliest opportunity to congratulate our players Mercyline Wayodi&Janet Moraa Bundi for earning a call-up to the Kenya national senior women’s team provisional squad for preparations ahead of scheduled matches against Botswana," Vihiga posted on their X platform.
"We wish you the very best as you fly not only Vihiga Queens' but the entire country's flag to greater heights."
Those named in the squad for the first time are Mishi Mbaru, Rebecca Okwaro (Kenya Police Bullets), Centrine Wasike (Bungoma Queens), and Kibera Soccer Ladies forward Nancy Atako.
Most players called up in the camp against Cameroon have been retained with Lorna Nyarinda also returning to the side.
Rising Starlets duo Joy Kinglady and Fasila Odhiambo will have to punch above their weight to book a ticket in the final squad after being promoted to the senior side. The duo also dons the Ulinzi Starlets colours.
The team is expected to be in camp on Monday.
