•The Ondeng led side have suffered back -to- back losses against Ulinzi Starlets (1-0) and Vihiga Queens (2-0).
•Notably, goalkeeper Valentine Khwaka, attacking midfielder Lydia Ozil Akoth (now with Kenya Police Bullets), and striker Ann Arusi (now with Zetech Sparks) are among those who left.
Gaspo Women's head coach, James Ondeng, remains confident in his team's ability to contend for the Kenya Women's Premier League title, despite currently operating in the relegation zone.
Gaspo, who were last season's runners up sit at the bottom of the league table with three points after losing three of the four games played.
The Ondeng-led side have suffered back-to-back losses against Ulinzi Starlets (1-0) and Vihiga Queens (2-0).
Ondeng attributed the recent results to the departure of several key players who moved to other teams after last season.
Ondeng said: ''The exit of our key players has really affected us this season. We have not started off so well. We must get back to winning ways in the two games we have in hand. From there, I know we can be consistent and push for the title once again."
Notably, goalkeeper Valentine Khwaka, attacking midfielder Lydia Ozil Akoth (now with Kenya Police Bullets), and striker Ann Arusi (now with Zetech Sparks) are among those who left.
Ondeng admitted to building a relatively inexperienced team, with many players transitioning from lower league tiers.
"I am building a new team that doesn't have much experience, we are transitioning. We need a little bit of time so that the girls can adapt as we seek a strategy that works best for us," said Ondeng.
The weekend's scheduled fixture against Kibera Soccer Ladies was canceled due to the Rising Starlets' match against Cameroon in the 2024 Fifa U20 World Cup qualifiers.
Ondeng sees this break as an opportunity to focus on improving the team's attacking prowess during training.
"The attack in my team is poor, we just can not finish. We failed to score on many occasions. Our defending is not so bad because we concede one or two goals but the attack can not go and pull one back for us. It is frustrating," he added.
