Vihiga Queens coach Boniface Nyamunyamu has warned his charges against complacency when they entertain Zetech Sparks in the Women's Premier League match this weekend in Kisumu.

The Vihiga County-sponsored side is one of the three teams yet to lose a match this season, having managed four wins and a draw in five matches.

They top the league table with 13 points, four points better off than second-placed Bunyore Starlets although Bunyore have played a match less.

"There's no room for complacency at this stage of the season. The league is still in its infancy but we cannot afford to underrate any of our opponents irrespective of their form," Nyamunyamu said.

Vihiga are the WPL defending champions although they did not make it to this year's Caf Women's Champions League tournament proper that is being played in Ivory Coast.

Sparks have already lost two matches thus far. The Benard Kitolo-coached team has won as many matches, drawing once to record a tally of seven points.

Vihiga are playing their home matches in Kisumu as opposed to their Mumias Sports Complex backyard because of the renovations according to Nyamunyamu.

"Our home matches will be staged in Kisumu and we have no excuses," he said.

At the same time, the tactician challenged his squad to embrace competition and fight for their place in the starting line-up.

He said flexibility is key, using Janet Moraa as an example of a player who has excelled in different positions.

"Every player must fight for his place in the team. Moraa is more of a leader and has delivered in whatever position you put her," the title-winning coach said.

The experienced utility player has been deployed as a striker this season.

"We have no injury concerns. All the 25 players are available for selection," he said.
