Harambee Stars on Tuesday evening suffered a 1-0 loss to neighbouring South Sudan in an International friendly match played at the Moi Stadium Kasarani from 4pm.

Tito Okello, who plays for FKF premier league side Kenya Police, rippled the net just two minutes into the game silencing the large number of fans in attendance.

The defeat comes just days after the team had played 2022 World Cup against hosts Qatar where they won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Joseph Okumu and a late-minute winner from Amos Nondi.

This comes as South Sudan’s first win against Harambee Stars with the last match the two played ending in a 1-0 the favour of the Kenyans.

Captain Michael Olunga had an open chance in the 63rd minute after a perfectly timed run beating the defence but Bright Stars' Majak Mawith was well up to the task.

Nondi, who came off the bench in the last match against Qatar to score the winner was not so lucky this time round also receiving a yellow card.

Kenya kept the pressure hitting the Bright Stars with counters but the solid and disciplined defence proved too tough for the Stars to break through.

The two friendlies played were to gear up the national team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The national team is in Group F alongside Seychelles, Burundi, Gambia, Gabon and Ivory Coast. The winners of the group stages automatically qualify for the world tournament in 2026.

This will be the first time the team will be returning to action in FIFA and CAF competitions following a yearlong ban from the world football governing body.
