In my opinion, every challenge is a gift. I did not reach this conclusion lightly because when I dealt with certain challenges, they were not pleasant. However, in retrospect, the benefits are clear. Now, I am grateful that I went through the difficult times because good gifts eventually emerged from those experiences. Often, life gives you its best gifts through crazy circumstances and you realise that the challenge was working in your favour only when it is over.
In life, change is constant, and with change comes challenges. Therefore, it is vital to examine your mindset in tough times. Your perspective determines your decision-making in times of hardship, and it helps to see your challenges through the right lens. Is the glass half-empty or half-full? Do you see your challenges as advantages? The lens through which you view challenges matter.
Every challenge presents three opportunities. First, they set the stage for you to evolve in your thinking and thereby experience growth. The growth process requires mind expansion, and one of the best ways to expand the mind is through challenges and obstacles. Challenges stretch your mind beyond your comfort zone – you start thinking more broadly because the resources required to tackle the issue are beyond your status quo. The expansion of your thinking is a good gift.
Second, challenges allow you to evaluate your system. People tend to get stuck in the status quo until challenges emerge. These challenges come to stress-test your success system. Prior, you may have had a blind spot that slowed your growth. In entrepreneurship, challenges are useful learning tools that drive innovation in ways that may not have occurred without pressure; furthermore, they come to reveal the elements of your strategy that need fixing.
Third, challenges position you to improve your success system. Once the loopholes in your thinking and strategy are revealed, you have the data required to make the necessary changes. It is one reason effective leaders love challenges. The increased rate of change accelerates progress. Challenges are a great gift in disguise; take advantage.
