Kisumu All-Starlets coach Juma Said is targeting five new signings to bolster his squad ahead of the 2023/24 Kenya Women's Premier League season.
Said has prioritised signing a goalkeeper to provide competition for Grace Tambo.
Tambo was at fault for two of the four goals that Kisumu conceded in their 4-2 loss against Kibera Soccer in the Football Kenya Federation Women's Cup third-place playoff on Sunday at the Nyayo Stadium.
"Ideally, we need a goalkeeper. Goalkeeping has been our main problem this season because we have been over-reliant on Tambo. She has manned the department alone and needs competition," Said pointed out.
Said also observed that the team needs to sort out their financial issues to give the players ample time to concentrate on match preparations.
"Logistical challenge has been another obstacle. The federation stepped in and that is why we honored the cup playoff match. Otherwise, we would have given the match a wide berth."
On the defeat to Kibera, he added: "We lacked our regular midfielders and the team looked disjointed. On the positive side, I am happy to see Catherine Nabiswa back on the field. She was out for a long time and her return will definitely boost our defense."
In a review of the season, he said: "The 2022/23 season was one of the toughest in my coaching career. Every time I talked to the media, it was all about defeat. Inconsistency in training proved costly but we hope to start early preparations for next season".
