Tusker head coach Robert Matano says he is ready to claim the scalp of Kakamega Homeboyz on his way to clinching a double silverware this season.

The two Kenyan Premier League behemoths set a scintillating FKF Cup final date on July 1 after barging past their opponents in semifinal clashes at Nyayo Stadium over the weekend.

Whereas Tusker pipped Ulinzi Stars 1-0, Kakamega Homeboyz stunned the more fancied AFC Leopards who were fresh from collecting a historic  2-1 win over archrivals Gor in a rivetting Mashemeji derby clash the previous week.

Despite Homeboyz running over Leopards to seal a berth in the eagerly awaited finals of the country's second-biggest football showpiece, Matano insists he and his charges are not quaking in the boots.

"We are ready for them. We began this tournament well aware that we would face any of the teams that registered for the tournament," Matano said.

The brewers brushed aside a torrid start to the season where they found themselves in the bottom half of the KPL table in the initial phases.

Matano said his success has come as a result of sharpening the claws of each squad member, adding that they have been firing on all cylinders to snatch crucial victories.

"We train as a team. We have a collective responsibility in the field. We train the same way and don't discriminate in any way when it comes to practicing finishing. We expect even the defenders to score when they get opportunities. Finishing is all around.

"Anytime we train we try as much as we can to remind all our players that finishing drills are for everyone in the team and they should try as much as they can to master the concepts."

The Ruaraka-based brewers will seek to fend off a tough challenge from rivals Gor Mahia in their next KPL assignment scheduled for Sunday at Nyayo stadium.

The two teams who have been trading the top two positions at the apex of the log for the better part of the second leg are separated by only a solitary point.

With the contention certainly headed down the wire, Sunday's crunch encounter could determine who between them gets to run away with this season's title.

"The match indeed has a role in deciding the title race given we only have four matches left before the season concludes," Matano said.

"We hope to reap maximum points from the game. We know Gor Mahia are good and well organised and so we are doing everything we can to prepare well for them," Matano said.
