As the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) women’s Premier League approaches its climax, fans across the country are watching with bated breath as Vihiga Queens and Gaspo Women fight it out for the title.

Tied at the top of the table with 34 points and a goal difference that keeps Gaspo Women ahead of Vihiga Queens, every game becomes a battle for supremacy, and every goal can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

Vihiga Queens' head coach, Boniface Nyamunyamu said his side is determined to oust Gaspo Women from first place.

“We need to work extra hard so that we can be at the top.  It is not going to be easy as the league is very competitive. We have a tough competition with Gaspo that has put us in a tight position but we are also very eager to overtake them,” said Nyamunyamu.

The Nyamunyamu-coached side thrashed Trans Nzoia Falcons 3-1 over the weekend in a match played at Mumias Complex.

Goals from Anita Namata, Providence Khasiala and Bertha Omitt ensured his side kept Gaspo on their toes.

The tactician stated that his team's mental strength would be essential to winning all of their remaining games.

“I think what we can do to separate my team and Gaspo at the top is to work on the mental strength of the players and ensure we win all our remaining games by approaching every game as a final and pushing hard till the end,” he added.

The target of winning the league, according to Nyamunyamu, will allow his players to be called up and play for the country in the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA).

“If your team wins the league, it is a very good thing. It is advantageous too as it will serve as an exposure and motivation for players to represent Kenya in Cecafa,” Nyamunyamu concluded.

For both teams, the upcoming three games are pivotal because they have yet to face each other as well as the third- and fourth-placed Thika Queens and Nakuru City Queens respectively.
