Former Kenya Women's Premier League side Eldoret Falcons are the pride of Eldoret following their victory over University of Eldoret (UoE) in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women's Cup Round of 32 duel played at the losers' backyard.
Rose Akinyi was the star for Falcons after scoring four goals in a 5-0 rout.
Akinyi opened the scoring for the Michael Wachira-coached side just four minutes into the game. She doubled the lead in the 22nd minute after connecting with Venessa Opakas' cross for 2-0.
Opakas almost made it 3-0 but her shot hit the crossbar after beating goalkeeper Diana Malesi and Akinyi failed to capitalize on the rebound as her shot went wide.
UoE’s Dorcas Chesambu beat all the defenders but failed to go past Falcon’s goalkeeper Stella Simiyu in the 30th minute.
On the counterattack, Opakas scored her first and the third goal for Falcons in the 33rd minute for a 4-0 lead before Akinyi hit a hattrick in the 39th minute for 4-0 into the break.
Upon return, the hosts, coached by Josphat Pilishi, terrorised the Falcons' defence with Chesambu's volley, inside the box, off-target. She returned again in the 60th minute but Simiyu was set, tipping the ball off for a corner.
As the hosts exerted pressure on the other end, Akinyi punished their recklessness at the back with her fourth strike after 74 minutes.
