Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker expects a tough season despite winning their opening match, 2-1 against Kakamega Homeboyz, at Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday.
Tusker assistant coach George Maina said: “We have had a long pre-season and I believe many teams are very strong. Iknow it will be a very tough season and picking points in our away matches will be very important."
On Saturday Lawrence Luvanda and Jackson Macharia struck in each half as the 12-time champions began the season on a high with Christopher Masinza scoring Homebyz’ consolation goal.
Meanwhile, Homeboyz coach John Baraza said all is not lost after starting the league on a sour note, saying they lost to the better side.
“We had prepared to win but in football, we always have three results — a loss, a draw and a win. Today we have lost and we congratulate Tusker for their hard-earned victory,” he said.
Baraza added that an early injury to captain Ali Bhai destabilised the team a bit, leading to some laxity in the playing unit.

The Brewers won last season's title on the last day of the campaign, beating Homeboyz to the crown on goal difference.
