National Super League side APS Bomet FC have said their focus is to gain promotion to the Kenyan Premier League once the new season starts later this month.

Having finished sixth in the just concluded National Super League following a draw against Silibwet FC in a derby at Bomet Stadium on Sunday, the club’s assistant coach Wanjala Simiyu expressed his joy saying they are happy that most of the targets they had set during the start of the league were realised.

“We are happy we achieved most of our objectives; only some few faults cost us. Nevertheless we know at the end of coming season we shall be playing in the top league,” Simiyu said during an interview.

And as a way of meeting their expectations, Simiyu said they are going to recruit some experienced players during the ongoing transfer window as they look to work on their mistakes so that they can finish in the best position in the league.

Started eight years ago by a group of administration police officers from Bomet as part of their outreach program, the club has steadily risen and defied odds to become a football giant in the region.

Currently steered by chief inspector Rose Chemutai, the club has managed to incorporate civilian players into their team.

Speaking in an interview, Chemutai pointed out that the main purpose of creating the club was to ensure there is a good relation between the residents and the police, especially coming at a time hostility between the two sides had heightened in the region.

“There was a bad perception towards the police and we saw it best to reach out to them by organising sporting activities. We had a number of games but football picked up well and we saw it best to build it and absorb some of them into our team,” said Chemutai.
