Bunyore Starlets' coach Zacharia Amakhanga wants players in all women league cadres to be considered on merit for national team assignments.
In as much as majority of Premier League players are considered for national team call up, Amakhanga thinks Division One players are also equal to the task judging from their performance.
"It's only fair for the new coach and his technical team to scout players across board. The women premier league has better players but the second tier boasts of quality as well. It is therefore the prerogative of the coach to craft in a balanced and competitive squad," he said.
Amakhanga's sentiments comes after two of his players-Juliana Keupe (striker) and Sheila Shabuya (goalkeeper) were denied the opportunity to link up with the Starlets despite receiving call ups.
"The duo were in the initial list of the players for the friendly match against the Copper Queens of Zambia but we don't understand how they were replaced. They had even received their letters but everything fell apart," Amakhanga said. Bunyore have only lost once in eight matches and are top of Zone 'B' with 21 points.
He asked new Starlets coach Charles Okere to attend grass root matches and see for himself what players can offer. At the same time, Amakhanga wants Football Kenya Federation to disburse Fifa funds when the league resumes to enable teams honour their matches.
"Teams are struggling financially. If Fifa funds are available, FKF should use them to cushion them against their financial struggles," he said.
