DC United star Luciano Acosta has admitted he is flattered by interest from Manchester United after the Premier League giants sent scouts to watch him play.

The creative midfielder has enjoyed an incredibly fruitful attacking partnership with Old Trafford legend Wayne Rooney and has impressed in his own right of late. So much so, in fact, that Paris Saint-Germain swooped for his signature in January, however, the Ligue 1 champions called of the £8.6million deal on deadline day.

United delegates went to Audi Field on Saturday to watch the Argentine play, but Rooney was shown a red card and the Washington side eventually fell to a 4-0 humbling at home. Acosta, however, revealed his delight at having the English club watching him play at the weekend.

“I’m obviously happy (United) were here,” Acosta said. “They came to see me, and obviously I just went out and tried my best.

“Today wasn’t my day, we were up against a great opponent and in reality, I’m just sad for the group’s performance today, and mine too."

It is understood United are in the market for a midfielder this summer, given Ander Herrera’s uncertain situation and Fred underwhelming this season, and will hope Acosta fits the bill.

The 24-year-old has provided one goal and one assist in five games so far this term, however last year he returned 11 goals and 15 assists – which certainly caught the eye.
