Kenya has been awarded a bronze medal for outstanding and most significant progress made in the establishment and development of its National Clearinghouse Mechanism.
The highly regarded global award was presented during a ceremony held on the sidelines of the Conference of Parties (COP 13) on the Convention of Biological Diversity in Cancun, Mexico.
The Clearinghouse Mechanism supports access to data, creates transparency and points out factors relevant to implementation of the Convention of Biological Diversity.
Countries adopted the convention 1992 as a framework for action after recognising the importance of biodiversity and the pressure that human activities place on it.
Scientific and technological knowledge was required in its implementation.
However, expertise in managing information and technology varies enormously from country to country.
