Hard-hitting Kenyan boxer Rayton Okwiri has upped his training ahead of World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super welterweight title fight against Ghanaian Patrick Allotey.
The WBO event will be held in the Accra suburb of Akoko-Foto, Dansoman on Boxing Day December 26, 2021.
“I have been training hard after taking a rest from the fight in the USA. I am hungry for success as I want to prove that I am the best pound-for-pound fighter in Africa,” said Okwiri, who has been training at the Advanced Fitness Centre gym under the watchful eyes of head coach David Kiilu supported by Daniel Shisia.
Okwiri is still unbeaten in his eight professional fights 7 (5KO),1,0.
In August, he beat Fidel Munoz to submission in the second round of 8 rounds non-title fight in the USA. In his last fight, he demolished Ugandan John Serunjogi via technical knock-out in Dar-es-salaam in October.
“The two fights have prepared me well for the title fight in Ghana and I will be ready to finish the year on a high,” Okwiri added.
His opponent, Allotey lost his last professional bout to WBC super-welterweight champion Jaime Munguia in California, USA last September.
Okwiri made his professional debut on February 4, 2017, defeating Salehe Mkalekwa at the Crown Plaza Nairobi. He won the African Boxing Union middleweight title in his sixth pro fight on June 8, 2019, beating Hussein Itaba.
