University of Nairobi Terrorists coach Eugene Genga said they will be ready for next week’s Kenya National Basketball League playoffs Game Two against Nairobi City Thunder.

He is convinced that the jitters of their 75-53 loss in Game One will have been subsided by the time they play the unbeaten side in the second game of the best-of-three series.

The campus lads locked the first quarter 18-18 and were down 25-10 in the second. They trailed  13-11 in the third and 20-14 in the fourth.

“Our energy was good, we competed for most of the game. Our defence was better,” noted Genga.

“But the second quarter let us down. We lost when they switched to a zone format and it took us time to adjust.”

“Then we got carried away and took bad options in attack which led to many transition baskets. We will work on that,” he said.

Fidel Okoth scored 15 points, Moses Alier and Okal Koranga nailed 13 each and Grifin Ligare shot 11. UoN had 19 from David Ochieng.

Africa Nazarene University coach Mike Oluoch said his women’s team were ‘scared’ in their 61-17 loss to champions Kenya Ports Authority.

“I don’t know what happened because we have played KPA before and it has never been like this,” noted Oluoch.

“We have one week to work on their confidence, composure and mindset. Unlike the first three, we played well in the last quarter.”

He will also fine-tune the men’s team, who fell 68-52 to KPA after numerous mistakes.

“We lost the game in the second quarter when we allowed KPA to lead 27-11 although we put in a good fight in the second half but the margin messed us up,” said Genga.

“We will be working on game management to reduce the turnovers.”

The Rongai-based students will travel to Mombasa hoping to turn the tables and stop the porters’ quest to retain their titles.
