Australian Wallace appointed Kenya Morans coach

The new coach is expected in the country early in February.

Australian Grant Wallace has been appointed as the head coach of the Kenya Morans team, set to commence training next week in preparation for the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers.

The first window of the qualifiers, encompassing Groups B (Uganda), D (Madagascar and Djibouti), and E (Kenya), is scheduled to take place at a venue yet to be determined from February 19-27.

Angela Luchivya, Secretary of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF), announced that the new coach will join the technical bench on a medium-term contract.

"We hope to tap onto his vast experience as we seek to bring diverse coaching styles, perspectives and valuable insights into global trends and competition," said Luchivya.

"We will also depend on his tactical expertise and strategic approach to games, which Australia is known for."

Wallace, expected in the country early next month, will be assisted by Cliff Owuor, Ancette Wafula and Harrison Kaudia.

Owuor and Wafula handled the national side during last year's FIBA AfroCan championship in Luanda, Angola. Morans finished sixth.

Meanwhile, 13 diaspora-based players have been included in a 30-man squad that starts training next week.

Nairobi City Thunder players dominate the call-ups with eight while Moischers, a second tier team, have one.
