Over 10 teams confirmed for the Sterling Super Cup Challenge

Teams are expected to use the tournament to test their new signings for the season

Over 10 premier league sides have confirmed participation in the Sterling Super Cup Challenge tournament set to tip off on Friday at the Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium. 

According to event coordinator, Maurice Obilo, the two-week event will see a total of 10 men and eight women's sides slug it out for a Sh100,000 prize money in both categories.

 Among the top teams that will parade in the show are Zetech University Sparks, Equity Bank Hawks, University of Nairobi Dynamites, Africa Nazarene University (ANU)) and Storms.  

The women's sides are Dockers (KPA), Twende (Thunder), Kenyatta University Pirates, University of Nairobi Terrorists, ANU Wolfpacks and Zetech University Titans.

“The tournament will be divided into two pools of five men’s teams and two pools of four ladies' teams,” said Obilo. “We will play eight minutes starting in the preliminary round all the way to the finals.”

“The top two teams from each group will proceed to the semi finals set for next Sunday. The winners will then battle it out in the finals. It is  definitely going to be a good show.”   

He revealed that there will be three matches on the opening day with nine coming up Saturday and another nine programmed on Sunday of the first weekend.  

“The winning teams will each get Sh50, 000, the second Sh30,000 and the third placed teams Sh20,000 each in the two categories,” said Obilo. who, also coaches Zetech University Sparks team in the top league.

 With the Kenya National Basketball League (KNBL) is set to start later this month and teams are expected to use the tournament to test their new signings for the season.
