Kenya’s wheelchair basketball head coach Maurice Ouma is confident of winning medals during next year's African Games in Accra, Ghana.

He said it is important for them to pull good results in Accra as the Paralympic Games in Paris, France, are just around the corner.

Ouma led both men's and women's teams to qualify for the Africa Games during the East African qualifiers in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, a week ago.

He said he has to improve on the team's scoring skills in order to win a medal in Accra ahead of Paris 2024.

“The qualifiers were great and we learned a few things but as a team, we need to improve on certain areas for us to win a medal in Accra next year,” said Ouma.

The unbeaten Kenyans qualified for the postponed games after winning all their matches in the regional qualifiers.

The postponed continental games will run between March 8-23 next year after they were postponed from August this year

In the men's category, Kenya and Uganda made the cut for the Accra games after facing off in the final with Ouma's side winning 40-26.

In the women's category, only Kenya will fly the region's flag after beating Uganda 27-10.

In Accra, the top three teams will book tickets to Paris and coach Ouma is optimistic that proper residential preparations will help sharpen the players’ skills.

“Holding residential training will help the players prepare well for the games. We are aware that the African Games will not be a walk in the park as they have attracted top teams from Africa,” said Ouma.
