National team star forward Valentine Nyakinda has joined champions Ulinzi Warriors ahead of the Basketball Africa League.
Coach William Balozi confirmed the move yesterday after the soldiers landed in Mombasa to launch an intense low attitude training ahead of the tournament.
"We have just landed in Mombasa, where we will pitch a week-long camp in readiness for the tournament. I am happy Nyakinda has joined us in this journey," Balozi said.
The experienced Nyakinda, who plays for Rwandese side, Tigers also featured for Kenya Ports Authority in the championship in Kigali last year. The group phase of the prestigious show is slated for October 26-31 in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania.
"We are here for business. Being together for an intense week-long training will be good for our quest in the event," he added.
"From the draws, we have a good chance to qualify for the BAL tournament proper and we want to take it," Balozi presumed.
The draws released by FIBA Africa on Tuesday placed the Kenyan champions in Group D alongside ASCUT of Madagascar, Cobra Sport of South Sudan and Hawassa City of Ethiopia.
KPA represented the country in the inaugural show qualifiers in 2019 in Antananarivo, Madagascar and Rwanda.
