Kenya Lionesses open their FIBA AfroBasket Women Championship against host Cameroon on September 18.

Playing from Group A, the Kenyans also have a date with Cape Verde on September 19 at the Palais Polyvalent Des Sports Centre in Yaounde.

“The training is going on well. The girls are peaking at the right time for the tournament. Vilma Achieng has joined the team from Mombasa and we will put everything in place once the diaspora players arrive,” said Mayienga.

Meanwhile, Guinea are headed to their third continental show after Fiba Africa awarded them a wild card following the withdrawal of Gabon.

The bankers trailed 16-10 in the first quarter but returned with determination, hitting the losers 28-0 in the second quarter for a 38-16 halftime advantage. Betty Kananu scored 13 points while Edna Kola sunk 12 for the bankers.

Equity Bank beat Umoja 63-56 in a closely fought men’s duel. Equity had Faisal Aden scoring 18 while Victor Ochieng shot 12. Tony Oklo sunk the 18 for the losers.

Lynette Akinyi tossed in 22 points and Silpa Agoa was good for another 19 as Storms swept Africa Nazarene University 67-54.

In Kisumu, Kenyatta University men and women teams had mixed results with "Pirates" going down 69-63 to Lakeside and "Oryx" dismissing Lady Bucks 56-45.
